| "Dear Diary" is this really therapy? Write it down; then forget about it. Recent research has shown that writing your feelings, emotions, and thoughts down about one's illnesses often eases the symptoms of those illnesses, including high blood pressure, asthma, arthritis, and cancer symptoms. “If you’re true to yourself and write down honest feelings, expressive writing works as a cathartic (therapeutic) way to release bottled-up stress, “says researcher Susan Bauer-Wu, DNSc, of Harvard Medical School. Bauer-Wu recently made a study with 171 women suffering from breast cancer and found that those women who used expressive writing techniques for 4 days decreased their doctor visits significantly. Other recent studies have shown expressive writing to reduce pain, headaches, fatigue, and even boost immunity. Try it: Write about positive and negative feelings for 20-60 minutes, 3 or 4 days a week. See Prevention magazine for complete article. Prevention.Com |
